Sugar Baby Watermelon...
Extremely sweet small melon.
Vigorous vines produce round fruits 8-12 lbs.
Flesh is medium red, crisp, firm and solid with few seeds. Very productive, resistant to cracking. Fancy groceries and farmer's markets carry this by name because customers ask for it.
BOTANICAL NAME: Citrullus lanatus
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start seeds in flats around time of last frost. Transplant 18-21" when soil is warm. Prefers a slightly acid soil that is light, fertile, deep, and well-drained. Should do well in any good sunny garden soil that isn't too alkaline. One of the most drought hardy plants after it is established; mulch well to further conserve moisture. Remove late-set fruit to encourage growth of the others. Watermelons are ripe when the tendril closest to the fruit is brown and shriveled.
