Moon & Stars Red Fles... VWA-6010

Farmer's market favorite with rich flavor.

Amish heirloom believed extinct until rediscovered by Kent Whealy.

Large oval fruits (20-40 lbs.) have thin, brittle skins splashed with small bright yellow speckles (the stars) and one large yellow spot (the moon).

Bright red flesh. Leaves are also splashed with yellow. BOTANICAL NAME: Citrullus lanatus

Start seed in flats. Transplant 30" apart after all danger of frost is past. Prefers a slightly acid soil that is light, fertile, deep, andwell-drained-but should do well in any good garden soil that isn't too basic. One of the most drought-hardy plants after it is established. Mulch well to further conserve moisture. Remove late-set fruit to encourage growth and early ripening.. get these seeds for next summer
on 06/15/13 by David Green-Thumb in SC

just starting to produce little melons... planted 2 seeds for two hills. both came up. one is OK. the other is great! a lil miracle grow and its blown up. cant wait for harvest. does great in SC... of course.. I plan to spread these seeds in patches of random forest near my house... when it hits 100 degrees consistent. idk this plant might grow 20 plus feet easy. basically if the fruits are good and plenty which im confident they will be. ill grow this variety for a very long time. and pass on as many seeds as I possibly can along the way. ps. if you start them early they will kinda go dormant till it really starts to get hot. then make room!
