Crimson Sweet Watermelon
Staff pick for quality and flavor.
Deep red, firm flesh with a high sugar content and rich, complex, taste.
The most disease-resistant watermelon we carry, with resistance to anthracnose and fusarium wilts. Not only that, but it's roots actually produce secretions that prevent fusarium in the soil, so it is a great companion plant. Our seed is from an independent grower NOT affiliated with Monsanto.
BOTANICAL NAME: Citrullus lanatus
Vigorous vines produce fruits up to 25 lbs that keep well.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start seed in flats. Transplant 30" apart after all danger of frost is past. Should do well in any good garden soil that is well drained and not too alkaline. One of the most drought-hardy plants after it is established. Mulch well to further conserve moisture. Remove late-set fruit to encourage growth and early ripening. Ready to pick when last tendril before the fruit withers and pale spot on the bottom turns yellow.
