Brazilian Beauty Tomato VTO-5781

Very rare heirloom with great flavor.

small vines start early early and go until frost.

Forty years ago, Gordon Brown was at a nursery when a hippie van with tomato plants for sale pulled up.The tomatoes were rare types from Brazil. The nursery owner didn't want them, so Gordon bought some, and this was the standout.Ultra-rare variety with wonderful sweet tropical flavor like the big mid-season tomatoes, but in a smaller, earlier plum-sized fruit.
Mahogany color with green shoulders. Very good yields. Staff favorite. BOTANICAL NAME: Solanum lycopersicum

Start in flats or pots 2 months or so before setting out. Transplant into well-composted soil after danger of frost is past. Set plants several inches deeper than in the pot-they will root along the stem. Greedy feeder-needs ample amounts of compost or decomposed manure. Needs lots of potassium, phosphorous, but not as much nitrogen. Needs calcium to prevent blossom-end rot; use gypsum or bone meal if necessary. Keep soil most in dry weather with periodic, deep watering and mulch. GROW BIOINTENSIVE® CULTURAL INFORMATION: H/Matures 8-13/Harvest 17+/Yield 100-418/Spacing 24" ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

Steady producer, delicious
on 05/25/15 by Jo Pavlov in ON

Bought this on a lark, as Id gotten tired of looking for the variety I wanted so just grabbed this one and left. It wound up being my second favourite of the whole season -- very steady producer, lots and lots of small 1.5-2 inch flavourful and delicious tomatoes. Did not disappoint and I sought it out and bought it again this season. Odd colouring, but dont let that dissuade you!

Early Variety with Huge Yields
on 08/22/13 by Michael in NH

I was really surprised by the yields. On 4 plants, I have harvested over 120 tomatoes and they are still growing strong at the end of August. They have outperformed all other tomatoes in my gardens. I have noticed that they are subject to splitting if we get a lot of rain, but very tasty.
