DESCRIPTION: Small to medium vines produce 4-5 fruits each. 3-4 lb size, rich flavor. The dense, very dry flesh is almost flaky in texture, with no mushiness. We have had many requests for kabocha squash, and are pleased to be able to offer this open-pollinated version, organically grown. Delicious roasted, baked, or in soups.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start seed in flats or pots 1 month before last frost date. Transplant out after soil is warm and weather is settled. Or direct-seed in the garden after al danger for frost is passed. Traditionally these vining squash are planted in groups of three, called a "hill", and given lots of compost or manure and lots of space or a trellis. Matures in 12-15 weeks. Harvest before heavy frost or when stems are dry. Leave 1" stem. Cure for a month indoors for best flavor.
