BOTANICAL NAME: Curcurbita maxima
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start
seed in flats or pots 1 month before last frost date. Transplant out
after soil is warm and weather is settled. Or direct-seed in the garden
after al danger for frost is passed. Traditionally these vining squash
are planted in groups of three, called a "hill", and given lots of
compost or manure and lots of space or a trellis. Matures in 12-15
weeks. Harvest before heavy frost or when stems are dry. Leave 1" stem.
