We have found a re-selected
and improved strain of this classic winter spinach.
The most cold hardy variety with large arrowhead leaves, slightly savoyed or crumpled.
Excellent for late fall, winter greenhouse, or over-wintering with mulch. Not for spring planting-it will bolt.
BOTANICAL NAME: Spinacia oleracea
Soak seeds a few hours. Best planted in succession. Plant seed 6" apart into well-composted soil. For best flavor, spinach need a non-acid, soil that is fertile and moist but well-drained, so spade in some compost & provide plenty of nitrogen and moisture. For fall/winter crop, start in late summer. If weather is very hot, plant in the evening into very moist soil in pots in a shady place, and keep shaded until weather cools. Not intended for spring crops.
