Madras Podding Radish
We are the only source for this amazing radish.
Heirloom variety from 1885, masses of sweet, mild pods with no mustardy flavor.
Delicious fresh munching or good for steaming and stir fry, in Europe they serve them with beer as a snack, like edamame. Big branched plants covered with pods. Use like a hot-weather snow pea. Great for pickling--no peeling or slicing, just put them in the jar.
Attracts beneficial insects. We are so happy to have this back. Unavailable for years, back again thanks to Jason at Strong Mtn Farm.
BOTANICAL NAME: Raphanus caudatus
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Plant seed ¼" deep and 18" apart in well-prepared soil. Plants are quite large and many need staking. More drought hardy than other radishes-no root to split. Edible pods mature in 3-5 weeks. Harvest before pods go woody (3-5 weeks). Use exactly like edible-podded peas. Excellent raw or cooked-try it steamed or in stir-fry.
