Unusual in that all the hotness is apparent at once, and fades quickly, unlike some peppers that build heat over time.
"Serrano" means "from the hills"
Distinctive, slightly fuzzy stems and leaves protect the plant from both hot sun and light frost. This pepper handles cool nights, early cool soil, and stress better than many others.
2" cylindrical peppers good for mole, salsa, general cooking..
BOTANICAL NAME: Capsicum sp.
Cultivation similar to tomato. Start seeds indoors about two months before last hard frost. Overwatering in flats may cause damping off or fungus. Transplant seedlings 12" apart into a sunny area when soil is warm and nights are above 50F. Protect from cutworms. Can tolerate marginal fertility but respond to calcium, phosphorous (bone meal), and magnesium. Water evenly to avoid stress and blossom endrot.
