Criolla Sella Hot Pepper
Jalapeno heat/Habanero flavor!
What a find! Huge crops of small (2 inch) golden peppers with a citrusy, smoky habanero-like flavor, but a manageable level of hotness. From the mountains of Bolivia, so they can handle cooler nights and more shade than other peppers. These do really, really well in containers, and even in hanging baskets! Hotness: 3
Good germination in cool soil. We loved them in sandwiches and salsa all summer--without seeds for a sandwich pepper; whole in salsa. Dry for golden chili powder.
BOTANICAL NAME: Capsicum sp.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start seeds indoors about two months before last hard frost. Overwatering in flats may cause dampening-off or fungus.
Transplant seedlings 12" apart into a sunny area when soil is warm and nights are above 50F. Protect from cutworms. Loves compost and plenty of kelp meal or other potassium source. Make sure it has adequate calcium to prevent rot. This variety will take cooler soil than most and prefers a bit of afternoon shade.
