Salad Bowl Looseleaf ... VLE-4290

 AAS 1942.

A light-green, extra-early looseleaf lettuce with great frost resistance.

Long, wavy leaves stand up well to rain and wet.

Large, very bolt-resistant, does not get bitter in heat. Regrows well from cutting.

BOTANICAL NAME: Lactuca sativa

Start in flats or pots in very early spring, sowing in sucession through the season. Good for late summer/fall sowing. May also direct seed into any spot that opens up in the garden. Fertile, composted soil that is loose, not too acid, well-drained, and in good tilth with adequate nitrogen and moisture promotes fast growth for best flavor. In hot climates, lettuce for summer will do best if sited where its gets morning sun only (east side of a wall, shrub, tree, or taller crops). Or use shade cloth.

I purchased this lettuce for a winter crop. It lasted all winter and then the ones I didnt eat during the winter I planted in the double dug beds and they took off and we had lettuce until it got really hot in summer. It went to seed and is the easiest to seed save with. Love this stuff. Taste really good
