with long deep green leaves
that fully enclose a crunchy blanched heart.
Wonderful sweet flavor, with excellent disease resistance and of course the deep green makes it nutrient-dense.
Heirloom from the Abundant Life collection, saved from the fire that destroyed their collections. Great choice for Caesar salad.
BOTANICAL NAME: Lactuca sativa
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:Start in flats or direct seed. Cold frames extend season. Fertile, composted soil that is loose, not too acid, well-drained, and in good tilth with adequate nitrogen and moisture promotes fast growth for best flavor. Slow to bolt, but in hot climates site plants where they will get morning sun only, like the east side of a house or to the north of taller crops. Or use shade cloth mid day to keep plants cool. Good for autumn sowing. Plant every 3 weeks for continuous harvest.
