Cook down into a rich yellow gravy or soup in about ½ hour.Bears over a very long season if given summer shade, perhaps under taller crops. Keep vines dry as possible to prevent disease.

BOTANICAL NAME: Lens culinaris
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Hardy plants but cannot take heat, so plant as early as the soil can be worked. Plant 4" apart into non-acid, well-drained soil. Plant seed ¼" deep and be sure to keep soil cool and moist. Some fertilizer helps get started. Soak seed before planting and preferably inoculate. Pick, but do not tear, all ripe pods so more will form. When pods are yellow and dry, hang vines undercover to finish drying if there is chance of rain. Thresh out and store when seeds are totally dry.
