King Richard is an heirloom leek
that grows fast and has high-quality,
long white stems for summer eating, or for fast fall crops in warm-winter areas.
Not hardy below 20 degrees. We have gotten numerous request for a summer leek.
*NOTE: This variety takes longer to sprout than other leek varieties, once it does it is vigorous in growth.*
BOTANICAL NAME: Allium ampeloprasum v. porrum
Start seeds in flats up to 12 weeks before last frost. For best results, when large enough to handle, transplant into another flat. After frost, transplant seedlings outdoors 6" apart. This variety is early maturing and can be also started in late spring for fall use. Not a cild-winter type. Transplant to a rich, deeply dug soil that is well fertilized. Try to keep the soil pH between 6-6.8
