BOTANICAL NAME: Brassica oleracea acephala
Start seeds in flats very early in Spring or in late Summer. Transplant seedlings 15" apart. If direct seeding, avoid soil crusting, which will make it hard for seedlings to emerge. Kale is very hardy. Ready for harvest in early Summer, late Winter to early Spring. Matures in 8-9 weeks. Overwintered shoots are sweet and choice.
