An unusual type of kale.
We don't know of any other heirloom curly kale that is red.
Color develops with frost. Very curly, very red.
More tender than the hybrid red kales you get in the market.
BOTANICAL NAME: Brassica oleracea acephala
Start seeds in flats or pots very early in Spring or in late Summer. Transplant seedlings into a well-composted and dug bed, planting a bit deeper than in the flat. Use lime if necessary to assure adequate calium and a PH of at least 6. Kale is very hardy and survives winter best if mulched and protected from drying winds. Ready for harvest in early Summer or late winter to early Spring. Matures in 8-9 weeks. Flowering stalks are particularly choice
