Armenian Light Green ... VCU-3459

Fruits are long, ridged and pale green.

Digestible for people who can't eat other cucumbers (they really are a melon).

Sweet mild flavor. Retains quality a long time.

BOTANICAL NAME: Cucumis melo

Dislikes cold soil. Sow in flats 2-3 weeks before setting out. Set-out or direct seed 3-4 weeks after last frost, when soil is warm. Prefers light soil with well-rotted manure or compost worked in. Needs ample food and water. Mulch or cultivate until vines form. Grown on fence or trellis to save space. Cucumbers love heat but don't actually like full sun all day-it makes them bitter. They do best with morning sun and shade from the strongest sun-try the east side of a tomato bed. Totally awesome!

I grew these for the first time last summer. In Sedona the temp is in the low 100s starting in June and its hard to grow cucs that dont get really bitter. These cucumbers were prolific, crunchy, HUGE and never got bitter! No one wanted to try them because they look so unusual but once they did.... they were not disappointed. They will be a regular in my garden every year.
