New sweet corn

from traditional plant breeder Jonathan Spero at Lupine Knoll Farm in Oregon.

He has been working to bring a little more sweetness into open-pollinated sweet corn, and Tuxana is his work in progress. A customer told us that the Tuxana she got nice well-filled ears for the first time.

Big white kernels are sweeter than most open-pollinated corns, with good eating quality.

Productive, with 2 ears on each plant. Ears are 7-8" long and mostly 16-18 rows around. You may occasionally find a few other-than-white kernels.  BOTANICAL NAME: Zea mays


An early variety that can be ready by mid-summer. Does well in many soils, heavy feeder-use lots of compost. Good drainage and full sun important. Must be planted in a section at least 5 feet square for good cross-pollination. Sow seed 2 weeks after average date of last frost. Greedy feeder so fertilize well. Don't plant same place every year. . Good corn flavor and plenty sweet

I grew this corn last year 2014. I planted it in Upper Oji, Ca. Seeded it in July and it was ready in the beginning of October. It grew like they said it would-right on schedule, I really liked it. I ate it raw as usual. It had a good corn flavor and it was pretty sweet as well. I also liked the texture of it. It was very tasty.
