Creamy, buttery flavored
Pennsylvania Dutch heirloom from 1885.
Thanks to Southern Exposure Seed Exchange for rediscovering this treasure, and Krista Rome for growing GMO-free seed for us. 8' plants selected for 6" conical heads with both rice and pearl type kernels. Can be ground, too.
BOTANICAL NAME: Zea mays
Prepare soil deeply and work in compost. Sow seed 2 weeks after last frost date. Best planted in succession. Plant directly into garden 15" apart. Corn must be planted in sections of at least 5 feet square to ensure good cross-pollination. Fertilize well. Let ears mature on the stalk until dry, then pick the ears. When they are totally dry, shell the kernels off the ears and store in a dry place. Freeze for a few days if there is evidence of insects eating the dry kernels.
