Developed in the 1930's

to be bolt-resistant and compact in size.

Flat, thick leaves offer some resistance to pests and weather, giving it a long harvest season.

BOTANICAL NAME: Brassica oleracea

Start seeds in flats very early in spring for early summer harvest, or 6+ weeks before first fall hard frost for winter harvest. Prepare soil with compost and make sure it is not acidic. Does best in good soil for rapid growth, with top-dressing of nutrients mid-season. Best to keep moist, but fairly drought tolerant; mulch will help. Can harvest largest leaves over and over or harvest the whole plant. Fantastic Results

I had great luck with these in both the shade and sun. 16" diameter leaves if you let them grow that big. Tasted great sliced very thin and fried for not more than 5 minutes with cooked onion and bacon.
