Champion Collards, Or...
Developed in the 1930's
to be bolt-resistant and compact in size.
Flat, thick leaves offer some resistance to pests and weather, giving it a long harvest season.
BOTANICAL NAME: Brassica oleracea
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start seeds in flats very early in spring for early summer harvest, or 6+ weeks before first fall hard frost for winter harvest. Prepare soil with compost and make sure it is not acidic. Does best in good soil for rapid growth, with top-dressing of nutrients mid-season. Best to keep moist, but fairly drought tolerant; mulch will help. Can harvest largest leaves over and over or harvest the whole plant.
