Erbette Chard VCH-3120

Heirloom from Italy,

this is a very refined and delicious leafbeet type chard,

with leaves that cook quickly and have the tender texture and mild taste of true spinach.

Harvest young for "baby spinach" that re-sprouts and takes heat. After standing all summer in the heat, we found that it still made mild tasty cooking greens in the fall. BOTANICAL NAME: Beta vulgaris

Easy-to-grow and drought-tolerant vegetable will produce best when well-prepared soil and good drainage allow its roots to go deep. Prefers a sunny place and is slow to bolt. Can be planted from spring onwards. This variety is bred for production of baby leaves, so pull off the outer leaves when they are no more than 4" long. Can cut whole plant 2" from the ground and new will regrow. Adequate moisture and fertility will make for more tender leaves. GROW BIOINTENSIVE® CULTURAL INFORMATION: ALL/Matures 7-8/Harvest up to 44 /Yield 200-810/ Spacing 8" ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :Perennial, Easy to grow, tolerates winter cold, tolerates hot weather

This and Malabar Spinach basella vine are the only greens that have survived the hot humid summers here in NC. they fly off the shelf when I take them to market.

Delicious and it takes the Texas heat!

I sowed a pack of Erbette this spring, and have been harvesting the most tender and tasty leaves even over 100 degrees. It is sweeter and more tender that other Swiss chard varieties. Highly recommend if you long for spinach in the summer.
