BOTANICAL NAME: Daucus carota
Sow seed 3" apart or broadcast carefully in deep, well prepared bed for long, well shaped roots. Avoid excess nitrogen which causes hairy, forked roots. Cover the seed lightly with soil and do not allow the soil to dry out or crust. Germination can be slow. Matures in 9-11 weeks but stores well in the ground or in a root cellar, can withstand the winter if given protection in the coldest weather.
