BOTANICAL NAME: Beta vulgaris
Requires loose fertile soil that is well drained. Likes cooler weather but sunny location. Plant directly into garden where soil has been well-prepared to at least 12" with any stones removed. Soaking seeds several hours in tepid water improves germination. Press soil firmly down on seeds. Thin out seedlings-use as salad greens. Keep well weeded but cultivate shallowly to avoid roots.
