Dragon Tongue Wax Bus... VBE-2270

Crisp pods stay tender and sweet.

We consider this the best tasting bush bean.

Heirloom from the 1800's, also called Dragon Langerie. Flat, creamy, 8" yellow pods with thin purple stripes (which disappear with cooking).   Impossible for commercial production, as the pods are so juicy that they wilt when shipped.

Heavy producer. Excellent raw.

BOTANICAL NAME: Phaseolus vulgaris

Start in flats/pots or seed direct in sunny location after soil reaches at least 60F. Using Garden Combo inoculant produces nitrogen in the soil and can increase yields. Plant 1" deep and 6" apart in well-dug soil, not too acid. Sow every 2-3 weeks through mid-summer for continuous supply. Keep well wedded or cultivate shallowly-roots are near the surface. Do not let pods stay on the plant after they are edible size, or the plant will stop producing, so pick often.

I love these beans!
on 05/21/14 by Zeruiah in NV

I am a very amateur backyard gardener with much less than ideal gardening conditions. I planted these beans on a whim last year, along with several other kinds of beans, and this year they are the only beans I am planting. They have a rich, satisfying flavor, and we liked them even when they had gotten pretty large. They were always tender and never stringy. The purple stripes make them easy to spot. I should have done succession planting, but I did not. Even so, I was harvesting beans until very late in the season. Production tapered off, but I was still getting beans.
