European variety is large, tender, and grows well from seed.
BOTANICAL NAME: Asparagus officinalis
Start early in flats. Germination is improved by scarifying (rubbing the seed between 2 layers of sandpaper) and soaking seeds overnight in warm water. Transplant to very well-drained temporary bed in 12-14 weeks, after danger of frost. Next year place in 18" trench: 6" well-rotted manure or compost, 6" soil, then plants. Cover with 2" soil; add more as they grow. Give compost mulch yearly. See information sheet included with your order.
