Tolerant of heat and long summer days
these are the lettuces least likely to bolt when the days get long and hot.
BOTANICAL NAME: Lactuca sativa
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Start in flats or direct seed. Cold frames extend season. Fertile, composted soil that is loose, not too acid, well-drained , and in good tilth with adequate nitrogen and moisture promotes fast growth for best flavor. Slow to bolt, but in hot climate site plants where they will get morning sun only, like the east side of a house or to the north of taller crops. Or use shade cloth mid day to keep plants cool. Bred for intense heat-slow bolting. Good for late spring planting and Southern gardens. Plant every 3 weeks for continuous harvest.
