Assorted grain types.
A lovely display.
Varieties will cross, so saved seed will have different combination of traits.
BOTANICAL NAME : Amaranthus sp.
Start in flats or in the garden after all danger of frost, on 6" centers in a level spot (so the small seeds do not wash away). Dig in compost and rake well before planting. Cover seeds thinly with soil (about 1/8"). Keep soil moist until seeds sprout, do not let them wilt. Variety with red centers on green leaves (black seeds in this mix) are used like spinach as soon as plant reaches 10". The rest, both green and red-leaved are for grain; cut and thresh tops when seed starts to shed.
