A great herbal groundcover.
Tough evergreen with glossy dark green leaves and pale flowers all summer.
Taste between summer savory and thyme.Soothes intestinal distress, prevents flatulence, warms the system. Attracts pest-eating insects.
BOTANICAL NAME: Satureja spp.
Sow seed shallowly in flats and transplant 6" apart into an area with full sun and well drained, well prepared soil. Easily grown, and is faster growing than most herbs. Slow growth means the soil is too dry or cold. For herb (leaf) production, clip often, starting when plant is 10" tall. For attracting beneficial insects and pollinators, allow to flower, which it will do over a very long season. Cut back to 3-4" high each year after weather warms in spring for bushy new growth.
