Easy to grow plants,
with purple grain “produced like crazy”
in our growout.
Used to make mochi cakes. We think it might make good bread more easily than other barleys.
BOTANICAL NAME: Hordeum vulgare
Start in flat 10 days before last frost in early spring, or as early in spring as possible. Transplant in garden 5" apart when 2-3" high. Or direct-sow in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in very early spring. (Frost is OK.) Prefers a dry soil that isn't too acid, and moderate fertillity. Water moderately; cease watering when 85% of seedheads are golden; harvest when nearly all are. Dry fully before threshing/storing.
