BOTANICAL NAME : Hordeum vulgare
Start in flat 10 days before last in early spring or as early in spring as possible. Transplant in garden 5" apart when 2-3" high. Or direct-sow in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in very early spring. (Frost is OK.) Prefers a dry soil that isn't too acid and moderate fertility. Water moderately; cease watering when 85% of seedheads are golden; harvest when nearly all are. Dry fully before threshing/storing.
