BOTANICAL NAME:Papaver somniferum
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS :
Does not transplant well; sow in place or in pots, in fall if climate is mild, or very early spring. Needs a sunny, well-drained spot. Enjoys rocky or gravelly locations, but the underlying soil should be fertile (may side-dress with compost or balanced nutrients). Needs light to germinate, so scatter seed on loose, raked, cultivated ground, water in, and protect from birds. When plants are 1 inch tall, thin to 18" apart. If they grow too close, the plants will be stunted. May need staking if plants get very tall, particularly if they were thinned late.
