Blooms through frost to 25 degrees
Edible 3" double daisy-like blooms in hot colors.
A traditional mix of longer-stemmed calendulas
in shades of creamy yellow through deep-orange, and single to fully double.
Likes cool weather, and will bloom through frost to 25 degrees. Quick and easy color scattered among vegetables. For a true cottage garden classic, combine with cornflowers in a bed of salad greens, then scatter the petals like confetti in the salad. Adds color to soups, desserts, cheeses and veggies plates. BOTANICAL NAME: Calendula officinalis
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:Start seed in flats or pots for an early start or direct-sow. Final spacing should be 12". Plant in sun to partial shade in any soil, but it will do best if given garden conditions-compost, some moisture, and reasonable drainage. Reseeds easily. Will survive night time lows into the 20's, and even bloom if days are warm enough, but will probably not survive frozen ground for long. Harvest blooms every day or two, before petals start to shrivel. May be dried for herbal or food use.
