Animal, Vegetable, Mi... BFO-1721
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle Barbara Kingsolver, 2007, 170 pp. Food Barbara Kingsolver and her family were living in Arizona and loved being there but they wanted to do more to be self-sufficient. They found it difficult in such a dry climate, so they moved back to West Virginia where her family was from. There they commenced a family experiment to grow and raise as much of their own food as possible, and keep their food purchases to within 100 miles. This book tells that story in a very readable way. Everybody with a garden has stories to tell, make comparisons, get ideas, share oopsies, as well as solutions. It's kinda like being in a parenting group. As a proud parent - I mean gardener, I especially loved this book. It hit a deeply resounding chord within me because of my passion for my garden and my firm inclination to be a locovore. Just as I began the book and got to her passages about asparagus, we were putting in our bed of spears. It was like harmonic. Convergence - I think she wrote it just for me. So much of the book was like that with humor, pathos, and inspiration. I can't recommend this book highly enough. In fact, I think I need to re-read it! APPROX WEIGHT: 1.1 lbs.
