A luxury item you can grow yourself

Silvery foliage to 4' makes a seasonal hedge

perennial in zones 6-10.  Artichokes like good soil and good drainage.

Artichokes grow best in mild coastal areas without huge weather extremes, but will grow and overwinter in zones 8-10, and in zones 6-8 with excellent drainage and winter mulch. Give the crown protection from cold and wet, planting on a slight mound and working in compost and some sand or gravel near the surface.

To get artichokes the first year, start indoors in a warm place, then harden off and transplant outside while weather is still cold. That way the plant thinks it has been through the winter, and will go into its bloom cycle when the weather warms.  Or plant out after frost and get chokes the 2nd year.
