Saving and planting your own seeds

can be addictive--it's fun to participate

When harvesting tomatoes, it's easy to save some seeds for next year.

If you've only planted one variety of melon, you can save the seeds you've scooped out before eating.

When harvesting lettuce, let a few of the best plants bolt and go to seed, and leave the best beans to dry on the vine for seed.

You can develop varieties to match your own needs,

that do well in your own particular environment,

or help save an heirloom from extinction.
